With the visionary mandate of bringing all dance to all people, it was time for Dance Saskatchewan Inc. to broaden it's horizons to the "World of Little People". Under the direction of Kirsty Snowsell, DSI Board of Directors, we began developing a summer dance program designed to meet the needs of young children. Naming our program "Wiggles 'round the World" will open the doors to provide other genres and disciples of dance to our children with no limits!
We saw three days of programming filled to capacity and beyond with preschoolers age 3 to 5 in a program that ran once per week.To pilot the program, Snowellberryhead Productions donated two of their specialized preschool dance programs to enrich the already fun-filled days!
The children enjoyed 45 minutes of Salsa Tots, a snack/pee/social break (they are preschoolers after all), another 45 minutes of the "Imagination Station" (a creative preschool dance program) followed by a dance related craft and story to finish up the morning.
Anyone involved in providing programming to children knows the importance of parental involvement.This new venture has allowed DSI to introduce young children to the wonders of dance, but most importantly allowed parents to learn that dance provides fun, health and wellness, esteem building, respect for authority, acceptance of peers, great socialization opportunities and so much more!
We hope to expand the program to include other dance forms and experiences that will continue to strengthen and support the dance community as a whole. Think of the possibilities!
