What: O Vertigo Intensive Workshop “Dance and Creative Processes”
When: August 4 – 22, 2008

Info:

Again this year, contemporary dance company O Vertigo offers its intensive summer workshop entitled "Dance and Creative Processes". This 3-week session offers a variety of classes and studio workshops that all centre on creation. Participants will have a unique opportunity to delve into to a wide range of experimental work in choreography, under Ginette Laurin’s guidance.
Open to choreographers, professional dancers, advanced-level students, and performing artists with a strong physical training base, the workshop will explore the creative process in all its aspects. With 4 classes a day, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the schedule is divided between technical classes and thematic workshops conducted by company members and guest teachers.
On the program:
- Body Consciousness and Lifts: work in space in relation to partner(s), in duets or groups
- The Creative Process: exploration and improvisation, with reference to O Vertigo’s repertoire
- Creativity and Performance: the dancer's participation in the creative process, with choreographer Ginette Laurin
- Contact improvisation (1 week): with Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood.
- And much more...
Two guest teachers will join the O Vertigo company members this year: Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood and Jamie Wright. Artistic director of AH HA Productions, Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood has been a leading international teacher, performer, and creator in the field of instantaneous choreography and contact improvisation since 1975. Dancer, choreographer, and teacher Jamie Wright moved to Montreal in 1999 and has worked with, among others, José Navas, Estelle Clareton, and Ginette Laurin as a member of O Vertigo in 2006-2007.
This intensive workshop entirely dedicated to creation is coherent with the company’s new orientation since the opening of its Creation Centre at Place des Arts. Research, experimentation, and training are at the heart of O Vertigo’s mandate. Offered since 1997, O Vertigo’s intensive workshops offer very high-calibre training and attract an international clientele every year. Close collaborators of company director Ginette Laurin, O Vertigo’s dancers are deeply involved in the creative process. As artists and teachers, they share their passion for dance and their skill as performers. They all practise different types of training as well as different artistic disciplines, which enriches the workshop’s activities.
