Lorin Gardypie

Lorin is Plains Cree from the Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation and has been an active member of Dance Saskatchewan since 2005. He has travelled extensively as a traditional dancer throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. He served as Artistic Director of Wanuskewin International Dance Troup for Wanuskewin Heritage Park.

Dance has been a part of his life around the world, with the opportunity to choreograph the opening performance for International World Folkfest in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has toured Europe with the Veterans Association of Canada with the ‘Calling Home Spiritual Journey’ and was part of the tour to London and The Hague as a performer and Co-Creator of `One Sky’, presented by Dance Saskatchewan Inc.

Lorin’s past employment includes Cultural Resources Director for Wanuskewin, Team member for Wanuskewin Heritage Parks Renewal Project, Traditional Knowledge Keeper for the Saskatoon Public School Board and Oscapios for Willow Cree Federal Healing Lodge. He is a past Board Member for Heritage Saskatchewan and former Board and Committee member for Dance Saskatchewan Inc.

In recent years he is the founder of Thunder Spirit Consulting, which initiated DSI’s support of ‘Silent Survivors’ commencing in 2013. Lorin presently resides in Prince Albert and has undertaken a new career path working to keep teens in school and to utilize his traditional lifestyle and his passion for arts and culture as a means of keeping teens in school.
