Strategic Plan

Our Key Success Factors:

1.   Image and Profile: 

By 2018, DSI will have a positive public profile as the advocate for dance in the province.

We will achieve this through the following core strategies:

  1. Continued Development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan and to employ marketing/communication personnel that will work with an active Marketing Committee to create the marketing strategy.
  2. Engage in an active marketing campaign that provides a visual snapshot of the commitment to celebrating ‘diversity’, which will include a billboard, signage and a greater presence related to Social Media as a means of promoting dance.
  3. Development of a fresh visual identity that promotes the ‘Love of dance’ and to develop promotional and marketing materials to support the belief that involvement in dance is for everyone in Saskatchewan.
  4. Maintain and enhance relationships with funding agencies and partners: SaskCulture Inc., the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Creative Saskatchewan, the Districts for Sport Culture and Recreation as well as external business partners and other arts and cultural organizations.
  5. Developing and implementing a communications plan to increase members and stakeholder awareness of DSI as well as to seek stakeholder input on an ongoing basis.

 

We will measure the progress in this key success factor by the following:

  1. Increase in membership and diversity of membership.
  2. Increase in media coverage, including electronic print, visual signage and a broad social media presence.
  3. Increase in involvement of groups and individuals.
  4. Increase in audience attendance to DSI presentations and events.
  5. Increase in number of strategic partnerships developed.

 

2.  Program Development and Delivery 

By 2018, Dance Saskatchewan will facilitate the delivery of a broad range of dance programs and services that support a healthy dance community in the province.

We will achieve this through the following core strategies:

  1. Increasing visibility and awareness of existing programs for all dance forms.
  2. Continue the assessment of gaps and needs in programming through consultation with members, partners and stakeholders from the Districts for Sport Culture and Recreation to determine developmental needs and then to develop programs to address those gaps and needs.
  3. Facilitating and supporting continued professional development and opportunities for dialogue within the dance community at all levels of involvement.
  4. Providing programs and services throughout Saskatchewan with a focus on target areas identified as part of DSI’s diversity plan, including facilitating programs to foster intergenerational dance opportunities.
  5. Assist the development of independent artists and emerging professional dancers and companies as mentors in supporting a broader dance community.

 

We will measure the progress in this key success factor by the following:

  1. Identification of targeted program gaps in both rural and urban locations
  2. Increase in number of members and participants, diversity of members and participants, quality of programs and requests for support.
  3. Maximized use if the DSI Centre to support programming initiatives that reflect the diversity of the dance community – targeting programs that support initiatives for new comers, First Nations and Metis participants in dance.

 

3.   Membership Development

By 2018, Dance Saskatchewan will have an excited, participatory membership which is engaged in dance.

We will achieve this through the following core strategies:

  1. Developing an expanded membership strategy outlining the benefits of membership and providing accessibility to Dance Saskatchewan services which shall include the development of an on-line member directory as well as the ability to become a member and to renew membership on line.
  2. Developing programs and services that satisfy our members and measuring the effectiveness of these programs and services with greater input from participants and community stakeholders.
  3. Identifying and recruiting all dance communities as members with a membership structure that supports the development in new dance opportunities
  4. Expanding the membership categories to encompass all dance forms and reflect a broader range of members.

 

We will measure the progress in this key success factor by the following:

  1. Increase in numbers of members.
  2. Increase in the diversification of membership with the categories of membership.
  3. Increase membership and program partnerships from within all 9 Districts for Sport Culture and Recreation
  4. Increased member satisfaction based on contact with members, which could include informal or formal meetings, surveys and direct member consultation

 

4.  Human Resource Development      

By 2018, Dance Saskatchewan will have the staff structure and resources necessary to support the ongoing initiatives of the organization.

We will achieve this through the following core strategies:

  1. Selecting and developing qualified, fulfilled and satisfied employees.
  2. Providing resources and training needed for the ongoing continued professional development opportunities for all staff.
  3. Developing a comprehensive succession plan for staff as well as for the Board of Directors.
  4. Developing a volunteer structure for the organization that includes active involvement by members on committees.

 

We will measure the progress in this key success factor by the following:                                        

  1. Monitoring employment satisfaction and retention.
  2. Growth of volunteer involvement, volunteer satisfaction and retention.
  3. Performance and employment satisfaction of the Executive Director.
  4. Formal creation of anEmergency and long-term succession plan.

 

5.  Resource Management

By 2018, Dance Saskatchewan will have the necessary financial resources to sustain the organization to effectively deliver its programs and services.

We will achieve this through the following core strategies:

  1. Maintaining current financial resources and funding support.
  2. Identifying current and potential new corporate supporters and developing a plan to secure their support.
  3. Ensuring the building and studios are full to capacity and generating financial resources on a long-term basis.
  4. Effectively utilizing current resources and operating within our resource limits and capacity.

 

We will measure the progress in this key success factor by the following:

  1. Maintaining existing funding levels.
  2. Increase in number of corporate supporters.
  3. Utilization of studios and full occupancy of building.
  4. Overall increase in financial resources.
  5. Increase in partnerships developed.

 

 6.  Board of Effectiveness

By 2018, Dance Saskatchewan will be recognized for its organizational excellence and effectiveness.

We will achieve this through the following core strategies:

  1. Implementing an effective governance structure and policies for the Board of Directors.
  2. Developing governance and operational policies to provide direction and protection for DSI staff and Board.
  3. Implementing a formal strategic planning process for the organization that includes the Board of Directors and Staff in a collaborative process with input from stakeholders.
  4. Attracting retaining and developing an effective board that is reflective of the needs of the membership and addresses the skills and abilities required for effective leadership.
  5. Implementing an annual board orientation and development process.

 

We will measure the progress in this key success factor by the following:

  1. Ongoing review, evaluation and development and implementation of governance policies.
  2. Introduction of an ongoing strategic planning process with increased involvement by Committees.
  3. Reduction in turnover of board members.
  4. Satisfaction of board members.
  5. Undertaking regular board monitoring and self-assessment, with evaluation on a regular basis.
