Diane Okrainetz

Diane is an experienced early years educator who has been involved with both dance and musical theatre her whole life.  She was born and raised in Saskatoon and holds bachelor degrees in physical education and education with graduate work in curriculum studies and kinesiology all from the University of Saskatchewan.

While receiving her education, she studied dance at the University of Saskatchewan School of Dance under the direction of such teachers as Sonya Barton, Joan Krohn, Irene Jasper, and Linda Rubin.  Much of her love for dance and movement is credited to involvement in musical theatre where she found her real passion.  She credits much of her vision in this area to friend and mentor, Kathy Bond.

Diane has taught dance and dance workshops to students and teachers.  Additionally, she has provided choreographic direction and served as dance captain to “Canada’s Pride” – National Youth Advisory Board of PRIDE Canada.  She has also served as an adjudicator and selector for Jeux Canada Games.  Her choreographic works include many school musical productions as well as full-length musicals for the Saskatoon Summer Players’ stage.  She is also a choreographer for the Saskatoon Children’s Choir who has displayed her work internationally.

In addition to being a certified cheerleading coach, Diane is certified as a Zumba® and Zumbini® instructor which has brought her close to her other passion of working with the youngest age group in a delightful music and movement setting.  Diane is also the Artistic Director of Saskatoon Youth Music Theatre which has presented 17 seasons of summer work for participants 6 to 18 years of age.  She is delighted to continue her work in dance on the board of Dance Saskatchewan and also to have the opportunity to promote her philosophy of finding the dancer in everyone!
