Biggar on Broadway was a joint endeavor of Dance Saskatchewan Inc. and Poitras Music Studio. This summer time event was a collaboration of musical theatre and dance. Workshops were provided to participants ages 6 - 18 years for the week prior to the final performance under the direction of Kelly Poitras. The focus of the event was to provide skills development to rural youth, performance opportunities, membership recruitment and fundraising to support future DSI partnership initiatives. Participants represented five communities within the Rivers West District (Zone 7) and attendees came from Biggar, Wilkie, Unity, Rosetown and Lloydminster. The performance event was to a sold out crowd, and the event realized a net profit in excess of $2000. The project will continue in the upcoming year in the same format, but with plans to add a second matinee performance. Mark August 22, 2009 on your calendars! |
